Colours

I've been reading a few craft and small business books lately- trying to get a more cohesive image of the Catkin Boutique. Craft Show and Sell gave me a few useful hints, like choosing some 'brand colours'. A few colours always stand out to me and Yellow is one of them, this suits a lot of my items too like the cockatiel and parrot designs. I also like pink and bright turquoise...

 I also want to come up with a little slogan, as a few books mention. 'Cute, quirky and beautiful' is my tag line of my shop currently - but a lot of shops would describe there work like that. I thought about my sweet shop style bags and was inspired by a customers tweet "Chose myself a little treat from Catkin_Boutique" ;
A sweet treat from the Catkin Boutique! It sort of rhymes :)

Bright Beads

I brought some pretty new bed sheets from ikea last weekend! I love all these colours and the modern stencil style print. They're similar to the colours of the matte glass toho beads I'm using at the moment to make necklaces. I'm working on a range of beady jewellery pieces based on tropical birds and plants. I've had loads of beads in a box for years waiting to be used, and this bit of sunny weather over the weekend has inspired me.

Pink Flamingo

The first of a series of prints; animal rainbow! Starting with pink yesterday it could only be a flamingo.

I wanted to try and do simple to make screen prints that were detailed and printed in just one colour, so I could make tote bags and cushions a bit cheaper. (multiple colour prints are more likely to go wrong and take much more time so are more expensive.) However I started with lino cuts of my ideas, so they're less detailed (no feathers drawn in ect) and I've highlighted the beak in black, I may have to do a bit of black in each design so they all sit well as a collection, and to add a bit of depth to each print.
This design was printed on textured paper which works well with the lino, looks like feathers!

Next colour is red! Here are some of the ideas i was playing with, feel free to help suggest animals please. :

Red: Lobster, red panda, ants, Macaw, frog
Orange: Clown fish, tiger, goldfish, squid
Yellow: giraffe, tocan, boxfish, snake, bees and hive
Green: grasshopper, praying mantis, snake, camillian, parrots, frog
Blue: starfish, blue jay, lobster, jellyfish, peacock
purple: crab, Siamese fighter fish, jellyfish,

Pet Print Cushion Covers!

I've made some new cushion covers for my shop. These are hand silkscreen printed using my own drawings of animals, specifically pets. I love these bright coloured fabrics, I can make each print up as any colour but these were the ones I was drawn to. I've had people asking for more muted colours like powder blue, so they'll be 'coming soon'. As I had sew each cushion cover I can select any colour or fabric you'd like!

I think these would look great in a modern home, lined up on a sofa. They really brighten a room. Even Ed the cat was  interested in them:

Put on a Happy Face

One thing I could do with my blank ceramics is turn them into little characters! The egg cups especially look like the head neck and shoulders of a person. Here is a collection of porcelain I've had my eye on for a while. Just adding a few lines and dots to a mug can turn it into a little person. So cute!

1: Mr & Mrs Face Coffee Cups.
2: Collection of Hand drawn plates
3: Hand drawn pot with Face
4: Heart cheek cup & saucers
5: Cold to Hot Face Mugs
6: My own photo of Japanese orange drink, so happy!
7: Three layers pot
6: Girl bathing in cup and saucer
